Large red flowers with a heady fragrance
Our selection of roses includes a wide range of so-called old varieties (first appearing before 1867) which have made the company's reputation,
modern varieties (post 1867) and recent creations. In winter, the bare-root range reaches 600 varieties.
The container (pot) range, available all year round, comprises "only" 280 varieties.
If there's one flower everyone loves, it's the rose! This flower, which symbolizes love, has a special place in our gardens. The rose brings delicacy, freshness, color and, depending on the variety, a delicate fragrance that perfumes the air.
In a bed, in isolation, in a path, climbing on a pergola or wall, or in a pot on a balcony... It's simple: the rose is at home everywhere! Of course, you'll need to choose a rose that's suited to your needs: you'll find it hard to get a bushy rose to run on a trellis!
At André Eve, we specialize in old roses, but we also offer modern roses.
Old roses are plants that appeared before 1867. These roses have an undeniable charm, with a generally bushy, vigorous habit, thick foliage and very often a strong fragrance.
Modern roses, on the other hand, are the result of cross-breeding to produce remontant varieties, which are relatively rare among old roses. Remontant means several blooms a year, from May to the first frosts. Modern roses also come in a wider range of colors than old roses.
The first question to ask when choosing a rose is where you're going to place it. If you want to use it to cover a pergola, then choose a climbing or rambler rose. If you want to create a hedge, a shrub rose is ideal. If you want a bed or pot planting for your terrace, the bush rose is recommended. And if you're looking for a stand-alone feature, then opt for the stem rose.
Next, ask yourself what the characteristics of your future rosebush should be. For example, if you're placing your rose in a bed, make sure you choose a color that will blend in with the other plants in the bed.
Some gardeners like long flowering periods. If this is your case, opt for a remontant rose.
Finally, do you want a fragrant rose? Some roses are fragrance-free. Scented roses, on the other hand, are perfect for perfuming a driveway or terrace.
Of course, you can also choose your rosebush on a whim! Do you prefer large flowers, small flowers, single, double or semi-double flowers? Let your heart speak!
Perhaps you don't have a garden, but you'd still like a rose bush? Then opt for a potted rose!
For a potted rose that looks good all year round, don't choose a pot that's too narrow - a minimum of 40 cm in all directions is recommended.
Don't neglect to add fertilizer regularly, especially in spring, when roses are greedy.
Finally, it's important to water your potted rose regularly, as it can dry out very quickly.
