Creeping roses

The rambling rose has sarmentose branches that enable it to cling to various types of support (walls, pergolas, trees, etc.). The rambler rose, whether remontant or not, can grow up to 10 m high. It embellishes pathways, terraces, walls, fences and gardens with colorful, high flowers. Discover our selection of old rambler roses.

Creeping roses: add height to your garden

Reaching heights of up to 10 meters, the rambler rose is a vigorous, fast-growing plant.

Creeping roses are ideal for covering large surfaces: an entire wall, a large pergola, a dead tree... But you can also use them as ground cover.

Most rambler roses, like Apple Blossom, are single-flowered and very abundant. But there are a few remontant rambler roses, such as Guirlande Fleurie, or Albert La Blottais, whose fragrant flowers bloom again in autumn.

Not all rambler roses are thorny. Some, like the Alexandre Girault rambler, are almost inerminable.

Differences between ramblers and climbers

Rambler roses and climbing roses are often confused. Yet each has its own characteristics:

  • While the climbing rose reaches heights of 2-4 m, the rambler often reaches heights of 10-12 m.
  • A climbing rose gains in vegetation density and floriferousness through proper pruning and management. A rambler rose, for example, installed in a tree, will be difficult to domesticate and will develop more freely and naturally.
  • Generally speaking, ramblers also grow faster than climbers. On the other hand, you'll find more remontant varieties and larger flowers among climbers.
  • Whereas climbing roses are best used on small surfaces to be covered (trellises, arches, small arbors...), rambler roses, with their abundant blooms and rapid growth, are best used on large surfaces to be covered.
  • Given their size, vegetation and respective uses, climbing roses are best admired when they climb up their supports. Creeping roses are most spectacular when their flower-covered branches cascade down from the top of their support.
