Little story
François Joyaux has created a Conservatory of rare roses, with over a thousand varieties. His collection of"gallic" roses is the largest in France and abroad, and has been classified as a National Collection by the French Conservatory of Specialized Plant Collections.
He is the founder of the Rosa Gallica Association .
In 1998, he published a major work on La Rose de France, published by the Imprimerie Nationale.
In the 19th century, France was the leading producer and, above all, the leading breeder of roses.
The rose has always been cultivated, appreciated and even venerated, and was the subject of an extraordinary craze in France at the time.
From Empress Josephine at Malmaison, to Gravereaux at L'Haÿ-les-Roses and Bagatelle, Alphonse Karr on the Riviera, Madame Pommery in Champagne and Monet at Giverny, countless rose enthusiasts were passionate about roses. For them, rose growers have created thousands of new varieties.
This book, based mainly on archives and texts from the period, retraces a whole history, closely linked to that of society.
