The sumptuous Gloire de Dijon climbing rose will charm you with its large, double, fragrant flowers.
How to choose between container and bare roots?
Created by a French amateur, Henri Jacotot, the Gloire de Dijon rose was born of a cross between 'Jaune Desprez' and 'Souvenir de la Malmaison' in 1853. This rose is therefore a tea hybrid.
This sarmentose rose, also known as Old Glory Rose on the other side of the Channel, blooms abundantly from June onwards and renews itself throughout the summer.
Its large, very double, quartered, flat flowers with scurved petals are buff-yellow, often tinged with pink. Its roses, whose colors change with the blooming season, have a beautiful crumpled appearance.
The sumptuous Gloire de Dijon climbing rose is no less easy to care for. Vigorous in some, it can be stunted in others, for some reason. Perhaps it has been propagated too much and has degenerated a little?
The Gloire de Dijon can recede from the base and be susceptible to Marsonia (black spot disease) when placed against a hot wall.
However, it is well tolerant of partial shade and even does well in poor, dry soils. It is generally fast-growing.
