Verbena bonariensis, also known as Buenos Aires verbena, is one of the easiest perennials to live with and maintain for maximum ornamental effect: volume, height, lightness and a superb purple color all summer long.
It requires little maintenance and blooms from June to November. Verbena also performs very well in pots for terraces and balconies.
Verbena is ideal for adding volume to your beds, and can be planted behind rose bushes in shades of pink, for example in the André Eve® garden, you'll find it near roses such as Robert Louis Stevenson® or Toul®. Butterflies, bees and other foraging insects love it.
Where to plant Verbena bonariensis?
As mentioned above, Verbena bonariensis is a very easy plant to grow, and will adapt to any environment. Choose a sunny spot and well-drained soil. It's a perennial that can withstand winter temperatures down to -10 degrees.
It can be grown at the back of beds to give volume and perspective, alongside other large flowers such as gauras or cosmos.
How do I care for Verbena bonariensis?
The tall stems of this perennial can reach 1.5 to 2 m. You can keep it in check by easily pruning and removing the excess.
Buenos Aires verbena is a perennial that likes cool soil, but not too damp. During the summer season, water regularly, whether in a pot or in the ground. When potted, take care not to let the water stagnate in the cup.
