"I asked François Joyaux, President of the 'Rosa Gallica' association, which was the favorite rose in his Commer collection (53). He answered without hesitation: "Although it's not a gallica, and we don't know its real name or origin, it's 'Baron de Gossard'. It is very remontant, very fragrant, and very resistant to disease. Its quartered, magenta-purple flowers are superb and it's a beautiful shrub. I wanted to get to know this rose. It has all the qualities, the only drawback being that, after a year in the nursery, the plants are quite sickly when you receive them. Don't be alarmed! It grows slowly but surely" (André Eve)
