The breeder made this cross between a gallic and a bourbon to create cold-resistant varieties. This shrub, which can also be trained as a climber, really has this quality. It bears marvelous, large, double, cupped flowers, grouped in bouquets of carmine-red fading to violet, which are also delightful when cut.
