An avant-garde rose. 40 years before David Austin, the German hybridizer Tantau crossed old roses with modern ones, hoping to obtain offspring with the flower shape, fragrance and hardiness of the former, and the remontant and floriferous qualities of the latter. From the remontant hybrids, 'Stammler' has retained the upright habit, vigor, cupped flower shape and powerful fragrance of the modern hybrids, the turbinate bud, glossy foliage and good September repeat flowering.
