Little story
He was due to be christened on 15/5/2020 on our stand at the Journées des Plantes de Chantilly, in the presence of the godfather and our Croix friends. The pandemic decided otherwise.
The Stéphane Marie climbing rose is a creation of Paul Croix Nurseries. Hybridizer Jacques Ranchon, husband of Dominique Croix, married the essential Ghislaine de Féligonde shrub rose with the indefatigable Rosa chinensis Sanguinea. From this unlikely encounter, without the designer's hand, was born the Stéphane Marie rose. Stéphane Marie is a vigorous climbing rose that can reach 5 to 6 m in height.
Its large, single, light-red flowers, abundant in June, lightly make their way through summer, teasing through autumn and even winter, to reappear in full force the following spring. Its light-green foliage is healthy. Its acrobatic, peace-loving branches (almost devoid of needles) flexibly embrace the support on which they are guided. Its overall look is that of a climbing rose, combining ease and lightness with a strong, luminous presence. It shares its simplicity, generosity, creativity and benevolence with its godfather, a well-known figure in the world of garden communication who gave it its baptismal name. Like him, it adapts to any garden, adding its own touch of color and fantasy!
It was a story of encounters and friendship that led Maison Paul Croix to entrust the naming and distribution of its Stéphane Marie rose to Roses André Eve.
